Learning Tree Reviewed by Western Culinary Institute Chef, Lucas deToledo
Food is a top priority at the Learning Tree day schools. From their selection of quality food products, to their creative menu planning, to the aroma of fresh baked goods; it is obvious that the Learning Tree schools have taken great care to ensure that the children are well taken care of. The menu follows seasonal ingredients and is always looking to expand both in flavor and variety. The kitchen was examined, there were quality ingredients and products, no raw beef, and virtually no contaminants. Raw meat is not processed in the school to avoid cross contamination, all meat products, like meatballs come pre-cooked. Vegetables and fresh fruit are a part of the menu, providing balanced wholesome meals for children. Sysco is the main food purveyor; a large food distributor used by many restaurants and known for it's quality products. The food was served family style. For children with a limited palette, a no thank you bite is encouraged, helping children to explore new culinary delights. Children who require an alternative may always choose from either a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a turkey and cheese sandwich.
